Middle School students are working in groups to create simple videos highlighting small sculptures or art items. First they were shown this simple video. As a class we critiqued what worked and what didn't work in that video. After choosing an object to photograph, they used their own hand held devices to capture photos. They were focusing on taking pictures in the same location and thinking about light and movement. They will continue to work on editing the pictures to create short "movies". By using a green background, they also have the option of using green screen technology in their project.

The Middle School Students had a mini lesson on Photoshop and how to create a mood. They were given three links - one to a Google page of Fauvist paintings, one to a Google page of Impressionist paintings and one to a Google page of landscape photographs. They were directed to find a painting that they were drawn to and then look for a photograph that had some of the same elements. Next, they were asked to edit the photograph using some quick editing tools and experiment trying to make their "painting" look like the Fauvist or Impressionist painting. We noted how the Impressionist paintings had more dotted brush strokes and muted colors. The Fauvist paintings were more colorfully vibrant and had more smeared brushstrokes. Here are a few examples of the students work as they posted it to their student blogs: Here, the first is the fauvist picture that inspired me, second is the photo that I found that looks a little similar, third is the one that I edited first, then the last one is the last one I did! The reason I used the photos I did was because I liked how they both looked like fields, even though the color might be different the landscape looks the same. With the hills and curves it shares like qualities. This project helped me express my creativeness at school which I think other schools don't get to do as much. - Leighann
Today we learned a little about Impressionist Artists and then some editing elements of Adobe Photoshop to create our own "Impressionist Paintings" After viewing a Google image search of Impressionist work, students had several nature photographs to choose from and then working on photoshopping them to get them into a Impressionist mood. After that, the students posted them on their student blogs and wrote about the process. Finally the students were invited to peer review each others posts.
